April Challenge: Make It Work

Greetings, Community!

After having a nice little break, it's time to get the ball rolling on our contests and challenges again.  Fo the month of April, we're doing something a little different than we have for past events.  We are having a writing and art
challenge.

Unlike our contests, this will NOT be a judged or voted event.  There will be no prizes other than the pride of completing the task and the joy in seeing what others have done.  The only competition you have in this is what you impose on yourself.

Here's how it works:

Each week for the month of April, on Sunday, I will be posting a series of prompts.  It is mandatory that this prompt be used in whatever fanart or fanfic you create for the week.  In addition to this basic prompt will be the option to increase the level of difficulty for yourself.  So... essentially, we're gonna have three challenge levels and it's up to YOU how hard you want to make it.

There are no sign ups.  There are no eliminations.  There are no restrictions on content.  You play whenever you feel like for whatever weeks and for however difficult you want to for that week.  The ONLY stipulation is that you have to have the piece finished by 5 PM EST on the following Sunday.  So, if you decide to play this week, your entry is due by 5 PM the Sunday after this.

Each prompt for each level of difficulty MUST appear in the piece, as specified.  For fanart, there is an exception for interpretation -- meaning, in short, that if the prompt is something like "she didn't think it would fit, but it did" you do NOT have to have those words appear in your artwork (unless you really want to).  You can instead interpret it as you wish ... say, Sakura trying to put a puppy into a box for Kakashi or whatever.

It goes without saying that, whatever you decide to create, Kakashi and Sakura MUST be prominently featured.  It doesn't have to be romantic, but they have to be the central characters.

Everyone clear on how this works?  If not, ask away!  If so, here are your series of prompts for the Make It Work Challenge:

Prompt One (Basic Level):

Peaches

No matter WHICH level of difficulty you choose, this prompt must be used in your work.  Use it as a nickname, a compliment, as a seriously underrated fruit.  It's entirely up to you how peaches factor into something involving Kakashi and Sakura.

 Prompt Two (Intermediate Level):

Must include using toaster waffles with deadly force.

Why?  Because the idea of elite ninja using toaster waffles as weapons amuses me, that’s why.

Prompt Three (Masochist Level):

Opening Line:  There’s a monster under my bed!

As with our other opening line challenges, the ONLY changes in context writers are allowed are for tensing, point of view, and for expansion via punctuation – such as for hyphens, commas, semicolons, etc.  Changing it to “there was a monster under his bed” is fine.  Changing it to “he couldn’t sleep because there was a monster under his bed” is not.

So, Community, you have until 5 PM EST next Sunday to create a masterpiece of art or fiction using one, two, or all three prompts here.  Remember: in order to advance a level, you MUST use all prompts that come before it in addition.  That means for Masochist Level you need peaches, deadly toaster waffles, and monsters under the bed.

In addition to this challenge, our sister community over on Dreamwidth is hosting its first every challenge as well.  It’s an Anonymous Meme and EVERYONE from both communities are welcomed and invited to play along.  For more information and guidelines, follow the link here.

Thanks a lot everyone and have fun!

AHAHAHA!

Dear Dawn,

You blow my mind just by existing in the world. I still want you to cosplay though.

With Much Warmth and Love,

Nims.

Using toaster waffles with deadly force. XD

Hahahahaha. Oh nims, you always know what to say.

*GRINS* So glad you approve, moldy. All I have in my head right now is Kakashi shoving a toaster waffle smothered in syrup into someone's face and blinding them with the syrup while suffocating them with waffle up the nose.

i think i'll give basic level a shot~ i really want to try masochist level, but i'm working all week, so by the time i actually have time to consider staring at my laptop screen for inspiration, i'll already be a zombie. but i'll def try the peaches prompt!
nimblnymphnimblnymph on April 11th, 2011 10:52 am (UTC)
Go for it! Maybe next week will be better for you to be a masochist. *grins*

Haha! yes, there's kakasaku everywhere now.

I'm a maso. ._. so yah. I'll see you with some fuzzly toaster waffles and peaches and bed-monsters next week 8D
nimblnymphnimblnymph on April 11th, 2011 11:57 pm (UTC)
OMG YUS THIS IS AWESOME!

I'm seriously thinking about making little star icons for everyone who does a level. Like, bronze stars for basic, silver for intermediate, and gold for masochist. Or... something like that.
Denilmodenilmo on April 11th, 2011 08:38 pm (UTC)
So if I were to pick Masochist level I would have to use all three prompts in one piece? Or could I do three separate smaller ones, one for each prompt?
Funny You Should Ask: KakaSaku by ew_younerdseoinage on April 11th, 2011 09:13 pm (UTC)
Yes, you would need to use all three prompts in one piece if you were to pick the Masochist level.

DO EET. *_*

Out of curiousity - In America are toaster waffles the sweet kind, or the potato kind?
nimblnymphnimblnymph on April 12th, 2011 03:11 am (UTC)
Umm... they're waffles. That you put in the toaster. I guess they're kinda sweet, usually after you douse them in maple syrup. Like Eggo Waffles.

Hey!
I am new here and I wanted to ask... this is still open right? I mean if one find enough time, she/he can start now and write three stories correct? And I guess they must be published level by level, first No 1 then 2 and then 3 right?
flametwirler: kakashi napflametwirler on April 17th, 2011 09:41 am (UTC)
Actually it's just one story. You can write a fic including just the level 1 prompt, the level 1+2 prompts, or prompts 1-3.

It's just if you write a masochist level story you must include the previous prompts as well. That's what makes it masochistic - you have to somehow figure out how to make waffle eating monsters who like peaches...or, you know, a more believable way of incorporating all three prompts together. :P

Then Sunday evening the slate is wiped clean and new prompts are dished out for another, new week of take-it-as-you-like-it challenge.
